Many of the leading ophthalmologists in Melbourne were members. The main business at meetings was the presentation and discussion of cases, while occasionally papers were read on practical subjects and external policies canvassed. However attendance dropped off. At the meeting of 13 February 1913 the three members in attendance voted to disband the Society, and instead join the Eye and Ear section of the Victorian Branch of the British Medical Association.
