Awarded (usually) annually, it recognises people who have made distinguished contributions to research, and to society and commerce. Recipients are invited to present the Grimwade Medal Oration at the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute, and the Grimwade Oration at a prominent Australian conference (such as ComBio). The Medal is administered by the School of Biomedical Sciences, and is funded by the Russell and Mab Grimwade Miegunyah Fund at the University of Melbourne. The University of Melbourne (1853 - )
