He has published almost 200 papers and several well-received books, often with colleagues as co-authors. A long-standing member of the Australian Mathematical Society, he served on council for 25 years. He has made significant contributions to the Society's publication program, being founding Editor of the AustMS lecture series and the Bulletin, and has been Co-Editor of the Gazette since 2013. Morris was Professor of mathematics, Dean of mathematics faculties and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at several Australian university, including New England, Wollongong, and South Australia.
