August 2024 Place of Death Israel Mathematician University Administrator Bert Mond was a mathematician whose research interests focused on non-linear programming and generalised convexity and inequalities. His published output was over 200 papers. Mond achieved his higher degrees in the U.S.A. and worked as a research mathematician at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He also lectured part-time at the Dayton Graduate Centre of Ohio State University. In February 1969 he became Professor of Pure Mathematics at La Trobe University, from which position he retired in 1996. During the early years of La Trobe he made a significant contribution to its development. He served as Dean of the Schools of Physical Sciences and of Mathematical and Information Science, and was several times Acting Vice-Chancellor. After retiring he continued teaching at both La Trobe and the University of Melbourne.
