<abstract>Frederick Trotter AMIEAust MVIE, helped prepare the successful tender by Dorman, Long and Company, the British contractors for the Sydney Harbour Bridge, moved to Australia and became their Victorian Manager. He was later appointed the manager of Australian Iron and Steel Ltd., the firm formed by the amalgamation of the Australian interests of Dorman, Long and Co., the Hoskins Iron and Steel Company, Baldwins Ltd., and Howard Smith Iron Co. Ltd.

He was active within the engineering industries, the profession, and the Victorian Institute of Engineers, serving on its Council from 1929 to 1933, as Vice president in 1931 and 1932 and as President 1933. He was also an inaugural member of the Building Industry Congress in 1931.</abstract>
