In 2013, David Lloyd moved to Adeliade, South Australia to take up the position of Vice Chancellor and President of the University of South Australia. At 38 years old he became Australia's youngest vice chancellor. His initial contract was extended to 2002 and then 2027. His earlier research work focused on use of advanced computer technologies to assist molecular design for the phamaceutical industry. He was a friend of the late Sir Terry Pratchett whose novels explored the foundations or history and philosophy of science.
