<abstract>Reginald Kelly, a solicitor, spent over 20 years studying thrips, thereby earning himself a word-wide reputation. The culmination of his work was the publication in 1934 of <span style="font-style:italic"> The Australian thrips</span>, written with Bruce Mayne. The species <span style="font-style:italic">Pezothrips kellyanus</span> (Thripidae) was named in his honour.</abstract>
