The Records of the Western Australian Museum (ISSN 0312-3162) is the principal journal published by the Museum. Included are the results of research into all branches of natural sciences and social and cultural history, primarily based on the collections of the Museum and on research carried out by its staff members. Such research is on the natural sciences of the state (earth and planetary sciences, systematics, biogeography, ecology), maritime archaeology, and Aboriginal history, reflecting the Museum's programs in Indigenous cultures and anthropology with a focus on cultural materials. The Records began publication in 1910, with four parts being issued under the former name of the Museum as the Records of the Western Australian Museum and Art Gallery (ISSN 1443-783). After a hiatus of 35 years, publication was resumed in 1974 with volume 3. Supplements to the Records (ISSN 0313-122X) have been issued since 1975, each volume being themed and having a distinctive title.
