Anna Friederich was a teacher and naturalist who qualified as a nursery teacher in Prussia in 1865. In 1885 she migrated to Australia. The following year she was appointed teacher at Ruyton Girls' School in the Melbourne suburb of Kew. Also in 1886 she published her book on German grammar, <span style="font-style:italic">Deutsche Verb-Tabellen</span>, commenced a German literature class at the Athenaeum, and was elected a member of the Field Naturalists' Club of Victoria. Until she moved to Sydney, Friederich was a regular exhibitor at Club meetings. Between 1888 and 1892 she was in New South Wales. Here she advertised as a teacher of languages and was appointed to teach German at a girls school in Randwick. Friederich was an active member of the Natural History Association of New South Wales, exhibiting at meetings and regularly publishing in local newspapers under the auspices of the Association. Among these articles were series under the headings "Lessons on elementary animal physiology", "Animal stories for the children", and "Orchids in Australia". By September 1892 she was back in Melbourne where she was elected a member of the Victorian branch of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia. A keen natural history collector, she donated specimens to the Australian Museum and the National Herbarium of Victoria. She disappeared from records in 1893 and probably left Australia.
