<biogHist>
The Natural History Association of New South Wales was intended to encourage young people to take an interest in natural history. In July 1887 a meeting was called in Sydney of those interested in founding such an organisation. Among those who attended this meeting were some of the leading scientists in New South Wales, including George Bennett, Robert Collie, Charles Moore, James Ogilby and Charles Wilkinson. Sidney Olliff's booklet <span style="font-style:italic">Australian butterflies</span> (1889) was one of several published by the Association. Local newspapers reported on the Association's activities at least up to 1890.
