Alan Jones is author/joint author of 223 published articles, comprising 100 papers in refereed journals, 6 books or chapters in books, 33 science and technology related monographs, and 90 discussion papers and articles on science, technology and innovation both in Australia and internationally. In his early work (1968) he was one of only a handful of researchers in the world pioneering the application of natural abundance (1%) 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) in chemistry and biochemistry, as demonstrated by some 90 published works by 1985. Technological advances in nmr techniques occurred both during, and subsequent to that time. By 1985 Alan's career path changed when he joined the Federal Government Departments associated with science, industry and innovation and he diversified into technological change in much broader areas of science and innovation policy, and later international diplomacy. He also practices fine-art with a focus on landscapes in oils and has won several prizes for his work.
