It specialised in the design and supervision of the construction of town and city water supply and sewerage systems, but expanded to include industrial site work design, trade waste treatment plant design, and environmental studies. It also collaborated and worked with other consultancy firms, trading as Garlick, Scott and Furphy in the early 1930s (when tendering for sewerage works with civil engineer Edward Thomas Mervyn Garlick); as Candy, Scott and Furphy, 1939 - 1950 (with civil engineer Charles William Albert Augustus Candy) and as Scott, Furphy Walters (with surveyor, civil engineer Frederick John Walters). The consultancy firm Len T Frazer and Associates, became part of the Scott and Furphy Group of companies about 1967. Its hydrology skills were broadened when Frank Waitt joined the practice, and its environment and landscaping skills were broadened when Ian Moad joined the practice. In 1972, the Scott and Furphy Group partnered with the American firm Camp, Dresser and McKee (CDM) to form Camp, Scott Furphy Pty. Ltd. to expand its practice in environmental engineering in Australia. In 1991 Scott and Furphy Pty Ltd merged with Crooks Michell Peacock Stewart Pty Ltd to become CMPS&F Pty Ltd.
