Roz Jessop is an ornithologist who has made significant contributions to the study of Australian shore birds and immigrant species. Her interests have focused on birds of the East Asia-Australia flyway, pelicans in Western Port Bay, and passerines on Philip Island. An active member and office-bearer of the Australasian Wader Studies and Victorian Wader Study Groups for many years, she helped establish the large, volunteer network essential to the work of the Groups; edited their journals; trained many people in the technique of cannon-netting; and worked on the preparation of submissions of animal ethics, fauna and landholder permits to necessary for the Groups' activities. For over 30 years Jessop was Manager of the Philip Island Nature Parks in Victoria. Her work has been recognised with the award of the inaugural Clive Minton Medallion by the Victorian Wader Study Group and the J. N. Hobbs Medal by Birdlife Australia.
