Since it's inception it has a vocal advocate for the preservation and conservation of Australia's native flora and fauna. It has campaigned for legislative protection of Australian species, the establishment of national parks and reserves; and the recognition of potential dangers from exotic organisms. Co-operation with similar organisations has been a high priority. The Society's journal, Australian wild life was first published in 1934, and until 1966 included the Society's annual report (later published separately). In 1999 the Society inaugurated the Serventy Conservation Award to commemorate the outstanding wildlife conservation work of the Serventy family (including former President Vincent), with the intention of recognising and celebrating conservation work that has not been done as part of a professional paid career. The Society has often been referred to as the Australian Wildlife Society, although this name was only formally adopted in 2013 for marketing purposes. Kett, William George (1887 - 1962)
