Membership is open to anyone interested in the natural history of Western Australia and the conservation of its flora and fauna. From the beginning excursions have been a central part of the Club's program. The Club has a number of branches and special interest groups, including for young naturalists. Since 1947 the Club has published The Western Australian naturalist. Other publication include a newsletter and a series of handbooks. The Serventy Memorial Lectures were inaugurated in 1989 to recognise the significant contributions to the Club of members of the Serventy family.
