<biogHist>
Hydro-electric Power and Metallurgical Company Ltd was established to generate hydro-electric power at Waddamana, for its use in a calcium carbide plant at Electrona, and an electrolytic zinc smelting and refining works at Risdon, Tasmania. Due to the inability of the company to raise sufficient funding just before the First World War, the power scheme was taken over by the Hydro Electric Department, established in 1914.
