David Allen-Williams, MA PhD HonFIEAust FIMechE FAIE MInstCE MIEE, was Professor and Founding Chair of the
Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Western Australia from 1958 to 1984. Previously he had been closely involved with the instrumentation for Britain's first research nuclear reactor, and with the development of the 30MeV synchrotron as a therapeutic instrument in the Department of Radiotherapeutics, University of Cambridge.

Under his leadership the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Western Australia grew rapidly and he was able to establish significant research programs that helped the burgeoning resource developments in the West. His prior knowledge and experience in nuclear science and radiation therapy helped in setting up treatment facilities in Perth hospitals.

His significant engineering achievements were recognised when he was elected an Honorary Fellow (HonFIEAust) of the Institution of Engineers Australia in 1987.

David Allen-Williams was also:
* Fellow (FIMechE), Institution of Mechanical Engineers, London;
* Fellow (FAIE), Australian Institute of Energy;
* Member (MInstCE), Institution of Civil Engineers, London;
* Member (MIEE), Institution of Electrical Engineers, London;
* Council member, Western Australian Radiological Advisory Council;
* Council member, Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering;
* Council member, Solar Energy Research Institute of Western Australia.
