Jessica Mawson was a bacteriologist who was Demonstrator in the Department of Pathology (later Bacteriology) at the University of Adelaide from 1938, where she was also assistant to Nancy Atkinson. In 1943 Mawson became Assistant Bacteriologist at the South Australian Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science. Several of her papers reported on the transmission of viral diseases. In 1944 she married Peter McEwin and they established 'Myrtle Bank', a sheep farm in the Hindmarsh Valley. Mawson was the younger daughter of Douglas Mawson, Antarctic explorer and Professor of Geology at the University of Adelaide.
