Sir Charles Barton, OBE ED BE HonFIEAust FTSE, was the Commissioner of Main Roads and Co-ordinator-General of Public Works, Queensland.
His distinguished career and contribution to engineering was recognised when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his War service in 1954; appointed Knight Bachelor for his role as Co-Ordinator-General of Queensland in 1974; was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (FSTE) in 1978; was awarded the Peter Nicol Russell Memorial Medal in 1978; and was elected Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia (HonFIEAust) in 1980.
