In June 1933, on the initiative of Muriel Marion, the inaugural meeting of a Eugenics Society in the University of Western Australia was held. The meeting was addressed by Dr H.J. Gray (pathologist) and Dr R.G. Williams (bacteriologist) of the Claremont Hospital for the Insane. A second meeting was held on 13 July 1933 with Mr G. Bourne (MSc) giving a talk on the "The Scientific Basis of Eugenics"'. Correspondence with the Eugenics Society (London) indicated that the 'Eugenics Society of Western Australia' had "gone into recess". Murial Marion had a subscription to the Eugenics Society (London) that lapsed in June 1939.
<p>Other supporters of the Eugenics Society in the University of Western Australia included: Professor E. Nicholls, Professor of Biology; Dr Everitt Atkinson, Commissioner for Public Health; Dr R. Jull. Around 1921 Professor Dakin attempted to create a similar society but failed due to a lack of public support.</p>
