<abstract>Graeme Henderson is a marine historian and archaeologist who has played a leading role in the development of maritime archaeology and museums in Australia. He was the inaugural Director, Western Australian Maritime Museum between 1992 and 2005. Henderson has worked on the discovery, investigation and preservation of wrecks around Australia, particularly in Western Australia and in the Fremantle area. Wrecks on which he worked include H.M.S. <span style="font-style:italic">Sirius</span> (Norfolk Island), <span style="font-style:italic">Sydney Cove</span> (Tasmania), H.M.S. <span style="font-style:italic">Pandora</span> (Great Barrier Reef), and <span style="font-style:italic">Vergulde Draeck</span> (Western Australia). Henderson was a founding member of the Australian Association for Maritime History, serving as Vice-President in the 1980s. He was also President of the Australian Institute for Maritime Archaeology during the 1990s, and as Chairman of its Special Projects Group was responsible for the publication of <span style="font-style:italic">Guidelines for the management of Australia's shipwrecks</span> (1994). International organisations in which he has made significant contributions include the International Committee on Underwater Cultural Heritage and the Underwater Archaeology Sub-Committee of the International Congress of Maritime Museums, For the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) he was involved in developing the Underwater Cultural Heritage in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 1996.</abstract>
