<abstract>SMEC Holdings Limited (SMEC) was formed in 1993 after the sale by the Commonwealth of Australia of the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation Limited, to a its former employees. It is a staff-owned major multi-disciplinary international engineering design firm, with a diverse, globally connected workforce, operating out of more than 40 countries with strong local relationships. SMEC Holdings Limited is incorporated in Australia, with some of its partner SMEC companies incorporated in other countries. The company has continued to expand, and has included a number of acquisitions: Brisbane City Enterprises (2005), EGC Pakistan (2007), Dare Sutton Clark (2008), CEIS Pakistan (2009), Lean and Hayward (2011), GMC Global (2012) and Vela VKE (2012). In 2016 it joined the Singapore based Surbana Jurong Group (SJ), and now, in 2024, operates across 120 offices, with more than 16,000 employees. SMEC is an active member of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), the Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD) and the International Hydropower Association.</abstract>
