<abstract>The Colonial Hospital was opened in Liverpool Street, Hobart in 1820 and was run by the Convict Department. It acted as the headquarters of the medical establishment and hospital services to convicts. It became the Hobart General Hospital in 1860. The Royal Hobart Hospital was located on the site of the Colonial Hospital.</abstract>
