M. and H. E. Coane about 1900. Henry lead their work as engineers to the Pacific Phosphate Company, London and built extensive facilities at Ocean Island and Nauru. In 1908 they opened the phosphate deposits on the islands of Makatea, Paumotu Archipelago, for the Compagnie Francaise des Phosphates de l'Oceanie, later worked by the Anglo-French Phosphate Company, of Paris and London. The firm were consulting hydraulic engineers to the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, for the Sugarloaf-Rubicon Hydro-electric Scheme, as well as consultants to many municipal councils, water supply and irrigation trusts across Victoria and New South Wales. With his father and brother, they wrote the major book "Australasian Roads - a handbook on construction, maintenance, and administration", of which five editions were published between 1908 and 1937. 1892 Career event - Articled pupil, to his father J.
