Australia was a founder member of the World Power Conference in 1924. The Australian National Committee was initially formed by members of the Power Survey Sectional Committee of the Commonwealth Engineering Standards Association (CESA), and the CESA provided it with secretarial assistance.

The Sixth Plenary Meeting of the World Power Conference, was held in Melbourne, in October 1962

Shortly after the First World War, the British Electrical and Allied Manufacturers Association (BEAMA) requested that each nation consider the future of energy resources, and asked each nation to survey of its energy resources and to share them in the interest of a new international order and world peace. If nations, shared the world's power resources, then international peace might be possible.

The energy resources surveys were compiled, shared and considered at the First World Power Conference held in London in July 1924. The "World Power Conference" was formalised as an international organisation in 1925.

Australia's contribution was initially assembled through the work of a committee of the Institution of Engineers Australia, and then the Commonwealth Engineering Standards Association (CESA), published in sections by CESA, and published as Australia's contribution within the volumes of "The transactions of the First World Power Conference, London, June 30th to July 12th, 1924.
