Sydney Dodd DVSc FRCVS, was Lecturer in Pathology and Bacteriology, at the Veterinary School, University of Sydney from 1911 until his death in 1926. His veterinary pathology and bacteriology research was wide ranging, but particularly of note was his research associated with the bacterial diseases of sheep. He came to Australia, in 1907 to take up a position as Principal Veterinary Surgeon and Bacteriologist, with the Government of Queensland, where he was engaged on experimental work and investigations at the stock diseases experimental farm at Yeerongpilly. He was Acting Professor, Veterinary Pathology, University of Melbourne during 1909 to 1911, where he was awarded his Doctorate.

Before arriving in Australia, he had considerable teaching experience and veterinary research at the Royal Veterinary College, London, under Sir John McFadyean, as well as field research experience in Transvaal, South Africa. His many significant research papers were published in the <span style="font-style:italic">Journal of Comparative Pathology and Therapeutics</span>, in the <span style="font-style:italic">Journal and proceedings of the Royal Society of New South Wales</span>, and in Department of Agriculture, Bulletins.

He is commemorated by a bronze bust placed in the Veterinary School, University of Sydney in 1928.
