<biogHist>
The Invasive Species Council is a not-for-profit organisation formed in 2002 to "seek stronger laws, policies and programs to keep Australian biodiversity safe from weeds, feral animals and other invaders". Its main focus is on prevention and early action. [From web site 30/10/2023] The Council has nearly 200 members and over 40,000 supporters, and is affiliated with a broad range of organisations including the Australian Committee of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, the Australian Association of Bush Regenerators and the North Queensland Conservation Council. It actively works with Animal Health Australia, Plant Health Australia and the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions. The Froggatt Award is presented annually by the Council to recognise individuals and community groups who have made a major contributions to protecting Australia's native plants and animals, ecosystems and people from dangerous new invasive species.
