He made significant contributions to the treatment of cancer in Victoria, being closely associated with Peter MacCallum in working towards centralising cancer services into what became the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. Scott retired from the position of Medical Director of the Institute in 1954. Both men were also involved in the Anti-cancer Council of Victoria. Scott was particularly interested in the education of radiologists and worked with the Australian Institute of Radiography to establish educational standards. From 1946 he became a member of the Education Committee of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Radiologists and remained associated with this (under successive incarnations of the Association) and the subsequent Board of Examiners for 29 years.
