Colin Gurner was a general practitioner and radiologist in Adelaide for over 40 years. In 1930 he joined the radiology practice of Stanley Verco, and for many years was associated with the Royal Adelaide and Adelaide Children's Hospitals in an honorary capacity. During WWII Gurner served with the Australian Army Medical Corps, being posted to the Middle East before returning to Adelaide in 1942 because of a shortage of radiologists in Australia. Like many of his colleagues, Gurner suffered from the consequences of his medical practice, including skin damage and the amputation of two fingers. He was actively involved in the Australian and New Zealand Association of Radiologists as a member of the South Australian State Council for over ten years, and South Australia's representative to the Federal Council from 1947 to 1949.
