It was the not-for-profit professional organisation for radiologists in Australasia. Aims included the promotion of the science and practice of radiology, and maintaining professional standards. In addition it conducted training and accreditation programs: the first Diploma examinations were conducted in 1953. The Trainor Owen Collection, established in 1967, was the College archive, museum and library: it included materials about the history of the College and its predecessors, and of the practice of radiology in Australia and New Zealand. Inaugurated in 1969, the College's Gold Medal recognises a Fellow who has given outstanding service in the development, teaching or practice of radiology in Australia, New Zealand or Singapore. In 1972 the College received a Royal Warrant and became the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists.
