Rose Amal is a chemical engineer renowned for her research in fine particle technology, photocatalysis and functional nanomaterials. Her research focuses on systems for solar and chemical energy conversion applications, particularly air and water purification. Amal was Inaugural Director of the Centre for Energy Research and Policy Analysis at the University of New South Wales where she has been Scientia Professor since 2009. She has received numerous awards for her work, including being named New South Wales Scientist of the Year in 2019.
"Professor Amal is a world leader in photocatalysis. Her photocatalysis research addresses the core issues of energy and water, two highly critical resources in Australia as well as worldwide. Her research provides an ultimately clean solution by efficiently harnessing solar energy to purify water or/and generate H2. In particular, her highly active, stable and recyclable photocatalysts have paveds t he way for the sustainable use of photocatalysis in large industrial scale water treatemnt plants. Held in the highest regard nationally and internationally, he passion for both science and engineering has led to creating critical scientific knowledge and delivering significant engineering outcomes."
