He played a central role in the College of Radiologists of Australasia (and its successors), being a Fellow and later Life Member from 1956. His contributions included a term as President, and Editor of the College's journal. Donnan was particularly interested in education, training a large number of radiology registrars and serving on the College's Board of Examiners for ten years.
