<biogHist>
Silvia Nobile was an experienced chemist when she was sent out to Australia by F. Hoffman-La Roche of Switzerland in 1959. Her task was to established the Roche Vitamin Laboratories in Sydney to offer technical assistance to any interested party with respect to vitamin analysis and stability in pharmaceutical products, foods for animal and human consumption and biological material. In 1968 the activity of the laboratories was extended to Quality Control of Roche pharmaceutical manufacture including quality control of packaging material. Since the introduction of the biochemical tests for assessing vitamin status the laboratories have been offering these services to hospitals and the medical profession as there was no other laboratory in Australia where blood vitamin profiles could be performed. The Vitamin Laboratories were open to any interested visitor and analyst who wished to learn vitamin analytical techniques. She was a foundation member of the Nutrition Society of Australia.
<p>In addition to her professional memberships listed below she was a member of the Australian Biochemical Society and ANZASS.</p>
