AACR2 Applied mathematician University Administrator Larry Forbes is an applied mathematician recognised internationally for his work in modelling and numerical solutions to problems in electromagnetism, mechanics and chemistry. His main interests lie with fluid dynamics, including ship hydrodynamics and shock waves in gases, and the design of magnetic and radiofrequency coils used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines. With Stuart Crozier, his work on MRI coils resulted in a number of patents and attracted significant research grants.
