The Minute Books are held by the Fryer Memorial Library, University of Queensland, together with a Membership Register for 1915-1920. In the period 1901-1919, 82 papers were given, although only a small number of these have survived in printed form. In 1919, the Queensland Institute of Engineers amalgamated with other existing Australian engineering associations to form the "Institution of Engineers, Australia", as one of the Institution's eleven 'Foundation Societies', and its members transferred to the Institution as foundation Associate Members.

The activities and meetings of the Queensland Institute of Engineers were well reported in Queensland newspapers, commencing with its formative meeting held at the Technical College, 27 July 1900. At that meeting, it was noted that funds remaining from the late "Queensland Institute of Mechanical Engineers" would be transferred to the new Institute.

At the next meeting on 21 September 1900, the Institute's articles and memorandum of association were passed and the office bearers elected.

Most of the Institute's subsequent regular activities and meetings were reported in the newspapers.

Twelve technical papers from its meetings were published, and bound together in one volume, as "Queensland Institute of Engineers Papers 1902-1916".

After the Queensland Institute of Engineers was formed in 1900, funds remaining from the defunct "Queensland Institute of Mechanical Engineers" were transferred to it.
