 English AACR2 Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules Person created 2022-12-20 human Helen Cohn updated 2024-06-25 human https://www.eoas.info/biogs/P007148b.htm person Cowan Alexander Menzies AACR2 c. 1920 Place of Death Western Australia, Australia Gardener Alexander Cowan, after training as a gardener at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, migrated to Queensland in 1880. After several years working in Brisbane nurseries, he was appointed Head Gardener at the Brisbane Botanic Garden in 1886, succeeding James Pink. Disagreement with the Board of Trustees led Cowan to resign in 1889. In the early 1890s he was in partnership with Pink in Badgers Nursery, which specialised in fruit trees and roses. From c.1895 Cowan was Superintendent of Rottnest Park, Western Australia.
