Anthony Henderson is a pure mathematician noted for his research in geometric and combinatorial aspects of representation theory. His interests include the geometry of nilpotent varieties and Springer fibres, and orbit closures in Hilbert nullcones and Nakajima's quiver varieties. Between 2016 and 2022 he was Professor of Mathematics at the University of Sydney. He has held executive office with the Australian Mathematical Society and is Associate Editor of the Society's Journal. Henderson's innovative work was recognised with the award of the inaugural Christopher Heyde Medal by the Australian Academy of Science.

He has invented geometric spaces which give new information about common symmetry types, and has introduced new methods for performing calculations in existing geometric spaces which take their symmetry into account. His work combines ideas from different areas of mathematics, and provides explicit formulas for use in a wide range of problems which involve observations on spaces with symmetry."
