Fish studies are defined in a broad sense to "include biology, ecology, physiology, taxonomy and systematics, genetics, habits and fisheries (including commercially important invertebrates) in marine, freshwater and estuarine environments". The Society also aims to provide independent advice and information as required and to promote use of fish research in sustainable natural resources management. Its Newsletter has been published since 1971. Members who have made significant contributions to the objectives of the Society may be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The Society has awarded the K.
