AFSS is the peak scientific society for the study of the ecology and functioning of Australian inland waters and the main professional association for scientists and managers of inland waters. Membership includes scientists, policy-makers and managers across government agencies, universities and the private sector. Areas of interest to members include biodiversity, ecosystem functions, management and restoration of water quality, and responsible management of inland waterways, with emphasis given to fostering the interdisciplinary nature of limnological studies. AFSS presents annually the Hilary Jolly Medal which recognises outstanding contributions to Australian limnology.
