<biogHist>
Murray Littlejohn was a herpetologist renowned as a pioneer of bioacoustics, and in the application of audio recording to study of communication in frogs. He made significant contributions to understanding the evolutionary biology of anurans, particularly in southeastern Australia and southern United States; theoretical perspectives on sexual selection, character displacement and the nature of species boundaries; and anuran distribution patterns including historical biogeography. A feature of his research was extensive, long-term and well-documented field work. His wife, Patricia (Patsy) Littlejohn (1932 - 2013) was an enthusiastic collaborator in this field work. Littlejohn was foundation President of the Australian Society of Herpetologists.
<p>Murray Littlejohn joined the Wallaby Club in Melbourne in 1981 and was President 2005-2006. For the last few years of his life he was a non-walking social member.</p>
