He also held directorships in many other major resource development companies, including National Australia bank, Amcor, Australian Foundation Investment Company, Atlas Copco and North West Shelf Development. He was a foundation member of the Australian Government's Australian Science and Technology Council from 1977 to 1980 and significantly contributed to many other business, mining, metallurgy and philanthropic organisations.
