This achieved through an extensive fieldwork program of capture and release of birds at key high tide roosts. Research aims include understanding migratory routes, stopover sites and destinations; the biometrics of species and subpopulations; and physiological changes during migration. Information gathered is used as a factual basis for conservation programs. A close association of over 30 years with the Australasian Wader Studies Group has resulted in a large database of shorebird biometrics, demographics and movement across the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. The VWSP bulletin: journal of the Victorian Wader Study Group has been published since 1980. In 2019 the Clive Minton Medallion was inaugurated, awarded to a member of the Group who has made an outstanding contribution to the objectives of the Group. Gosbell, Ken
