The Matrix Biology Society of Australia and New Zealand, known by this name since 1996, was founded in 1975 under as the Connective Tissue Society of Australia and New Zealand. It is a non-profit organisation "that brings together researchers, clinicians and industry leaders with a common interest in the extracellular matrix with relevance". [from www.mbsanz.org] Members have a broad range of interests where research leads to new fundamental knowledge and has applications in health care. The Society provides a platform for discussion and knowledge transfer. Awards presented by the Society include (since 2001) the Barry Preston Award which recognises an outstanding leader in the field of matrix biology and (since 2005) the Bob Fraser Award for emerging early- to mid-career researchers.
