Her research focuses on sensing, lasers and new classes of optical fibres, including Super Dots technology, and is aimed at encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration. In 2005 Monro was appointed as the inaugural Professor of Photonics at the University of Adelaide where she led where she led several research groups in photonics.
