In 1993 the Department of Environment and Land Management (1993 - 1998) also known as DELM was established with the merging of the Department of Parks, Wildlife and Heritage (1989 - 1993) and the Department of Environment and Planning (1989 - 1993). The Department of Environment and Land Management took on the functions of environmental protection, land use, and heritage conservation. Key organisations like the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens (1828 - ), the Office of Antarctic Affairs (1989 - ), The Parks and Wildlife Service (1993 - ), the Geospatial Infrastructure Branch (1980 - 2017) and the Port Arthur Historic Management Authority (1987) sat within this department. In 1998 DELM was disbanded and became part of the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006).
