The Department of Primary Industry (1989 - 1992) was home to the Veterinary Board of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Diary Industry and Authority and the Inland Fisheries Commission. Its broad functions were the regulation, protection, scientific research into and management of marine and agricultural resources in Tasmania. In 1992 a further merger with parts of the Department of Resources and Energy (1989 - 1992) saw the creation of the Department of Primary Industry, Fisheries and Energy (1992 - 1993).
