The new Department of Agriculture and Stock (1903 - 1909) carried out functions relating to agricultural education and training, quarantine of stock, and stock inspection. There is a gap of two years between the abolition of the Department of Agriculture and Stock (1903 - 1909) and the formation of the Department of Agriculture [II] (1911 - 1989). A decision was made to dissolve the Council of Agriculture and re-organise the Department. A new director was appointed in 1910. Despite the significant restructure the name of the Department of Agriculture and Stock (1903 - 1909) was not officially changed to the Department of Agriculture [II] (1911 - 1989) until 1927.
