The Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (1998 - 2014) was established in 1998 via the amalgamation of the Department of Transport (1995 - 1998), and divisions of Tasmanian Development and Resources (1994 - 1998) and the Department of Primary Industry and Fisheries (1993 - 1998). It was responsible for functions relating to workplace safety, mineralogy and geology, railways, forestry and energy. In 2014 the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (1998 - 2014) merged with the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts (2009 - 2014) creating the Department of State Growth (2014 - ).
