In 1998 the Department of Community and Health Services (1993 -1998) was renamed the Department of Health and Human Services (1998 - 2018). The new Department of Health and Human Services (1998 - 2018) retained responsibilities relating to hospitals, disability services and the Tasmanian Fire Service. Between 2009 and 2012 the Department of Health and Human Services oversaw the creation of three statutory bodies that became responsible for health service delivery. In 2018 the Human Services and Health functions were split and two new departments created, the Department of Health [II] (2018) - and Department of Communities Tasmania (2018 - ).
