He was particularly interested in the Mycoplasma family of organisms. Having qualified as a veterinarian at the University of Sydney, Lloyd spent four years with the Victorian Department of Agriculture before joining the CSIRO Animal Health Laboratory in Parkville, Victoria. Here he led investigations into the parthenogenesis, pathology and clinical biochemistry of CBPP, including developing and evaluating diagnostic tests and the storage and viability of live cultures of vaccine. As Officer-in-Charge of the Laboratory he was responsible for the diagnosis, control and prevention of endemic bacterial, viral and parasitic diseases of cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry.
